Condensation

What is condensation?

Condensation occurs when moist air comes into contact with a colder surface like a wall, window, mirror etc. This is water which collects as droplets on a cold surface when humid air is in contact with it, which then creates moisture, steam and/or even mould what then turns to damp. The air can’t hold the moisture and tiny drops of water appear.

What is the cause of condensation?

The reason condensation appears in your property is due to a lack of adequate ventilation e.g. not opening windows to allow air to circulate, which causes humidity levels to rise. It appears on cold surfaces and in places where there is little movement of air. It can often lead to mould forming in corners, on or near windows, in or behind wardrobes and cupboards and can also have an effect on your health.

What is the resolution to condensation?

Depending on the type of condensation, which will be surveyed by one of our damp specialist surveyors with over 50 years of experience, there are 3 types of vent systems that can fix condensation problems. Our surveyor will come out and take a look at the condensation, which then we will go on to quote for which vent system suits best.

PIV SYSTEM

The positive input ventilator (PIV FAN) provides whole home ventilation using the PIV principle. The controls are located on the main unit which should always be mounted into the loft. The Intelligent PIV is a loft mounted ultra-quiet, low energy, low maintenance, home ventilation unit. PIV units have been preventing and curing condensation dampness-related problems in homes for decades. They are also used to control other indoor air pollutants and have even been proven to be an effective means for reducing Radon gas in some properties! External air is drawn into the PIV unit. Before it passes through the unit’s filter, the air increases in temperature as it utilises otherwise unused energy in the loft from solar gain and heat loss from the home.

Benefits of PIV system

  • Ultra Quiet
  • Very Low Running Costs
  • Heat Recovery
  • Wide Operating Range

HOME DRY VENT SYSTEM

HOME DRY condensation vents are designed to reduce condensation thanks to the centre core, by fitting the innovative condensation vent, the problems will be solved quickly, cheaply and efficiently. Thanks to the central core filter, the home dry vent allows condensation and moisture laden air to escape the property, as the psychometric conditions on the inside of the building are different to that on the outside. The difference in the conditions within a property will result in a vapour pressure differential from inside to outside, which is the driving force to allow vapour dispersion. The Home Dry vent stops annoying draughts, reduces heat loss and traffic noise with absolutely no energy consumption it is perfect for combating problems with mould and algae growth.

Benefits of a home dry vent system

  • No energy consumption
  • Innovative insert design allows moisture to escape
  • Insert can be removed if necessary for cleaning or replacing
  • Completely silent in operation

EXTRACTOR FAN

Our white extractor fan kit with integrated adjustable timer is ideal for extracting air and are also a suitable fit for bathrooms.

Benefits of having any of the above Vent systems installed:

  • Protects against allergens
  • Helps Asthma suffers
  • Protections from outside dirty air
  • Protection from indoor pollutants
  • Cure mould and condensation growth
